I think the whole look gives off a nice "smokey" look and a subtle hint of what's inside without looking too out-of-place in the overworld. Black stained glass fills in the rest of the gaps between the polished basalt. The roof has an overhang with a lantern hanging from each 4 corners while the rest of the roof is a rectangular pyramid with lower half brick slabs at the top.
The roof uses regular brick stairs you get from cooking clay. The rest are facing up/down except for the one polished basalt block with the rings rings out where I put beech buttons. So I have mine with the "rings" facing outwards at the top of the building all in the same east/west facing direction for uniformity. Because the polished basalt has rings similar to logs, you can directionally place them in the same fashion as logs. It has the polished basalt at each four corners and the door frame. The building is a 8 x 5 block rectangle and 4 blocks tall. But what I like is the look of polished basalt. Mob proofed and with a button controlled door makes it very safe.

I built my generator in the overworld as I can't see myself needing a lot of the stuff, but I will admit I built a tiny little shack type of building to serve as my entrance to a safe underground area where my basalt generator is. Any area of magic, be it close up, parlor, stage, busking, mentalism, coins or cards, are welcome. I've been doing a couple of quick builds with basalt.
